Dr. Akesha Horton is the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Luddy School at Indiana University. In this role she provides professional development to faculty in the areas of androgogy inclusive teaching and the scholarship of teaching and learning; supports departments in curricular and instructional efforts, trains assistant and undergraduate instructors. She also collaborates with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Student Engagement to support efforts related to recruitment and retention. Dr. Horton is an alumni of the Fulbright-mtvU Scholar program. In this role, she worked with Australian based hip-hop artists to develop and implement educational programs that served underrepresented youth. While in Australia, she became a Google Certified educator and helped launch the first completely online program in Indigenous Education at Macquarie University. She is also the recipient of an AECT NSF Early Career Faculty Fellow award. These experiences have helped her become an expert at inclusive teaching practices and creating equitable learning spaces, most recently receiving funding from the IEEE CS Diversity and Inclusion Fund for Applying Atomic Habits to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Teaching.
